Water Quality Monitoring
Water Quality Monitoring Program
Edsel & Eleanor Ford House has been partnering with local schools to develop programs on Estate’s massive grounds. With more than 3,000 feet of coastline, Ford House offers an incredible resource for students studying water. There is access to several points of water on the property: Lake St. Clair, Ford’s Cove, “The Lagoon,” and the Milk River, each providing an opportunity to collect different data readings. Students conduct a variety of studies, including tests for nitrates, pH, dissolved oxygen and phosphates. The readings received lend themselves to a discussion about Lake St. Clair and the variables for a healthy environment—in students’ own backyard!

Through piloting and evaluation, Ford House is offering limited opportunities for water testing on the property. Access for water testing during the spring will be free to schools bringing their own testing equipment and will be offered for a small fee for the use of Ford House testing equipment. Group size will be limited to 30 students.

For more information on environmental programs or to schedule a time for your class to conduct water testing at Ford House, contact the education department.
