Inspired Images: Balthazar Korab’s Photographs
Exclusive Exhibit at Edsel & Eleanor Ford House
“I am an architect with a passion
For nature’s lessons and man’s interventions”
Balthazar Korab
The work of Balthazar Korab has been seen in prominent museums and publications around the globe – showcasing his designer’s eye for architecture and nature. Now, the inspired images of this celebrated photographer will be displayed at Edsel & Eleanor Ford House (Ford House) in Grosse Pointe Shores. The exclusive exhibit, Inspired Images: Balthazar Korab’s Photographs of Edsel & Eleanor Ford House and Henry Ford Estate, runs Sept. 18 through Nov. 27.
Throughout his illustrious career, which began as an architect, Hungarian-born Korab has explored man's relationship with the environment in his stunning visual portfolio of places where we live and work. As a regular visitor to the two Ford estates – Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores and Fair Lane in Dearborn – for more than 20 years, Korab has captured the spirit of the landscape, architecture and environment of both estates.
Timed to celebrate the 150th birthday of Jens Jensen, the noted landscape architect who designed the grounds for both Ford estates early in the 20th century, the Inspired Images exhibit chronicles these historic landscapes throughout the changing seasons.
“Both Ford House and Fair Lane are wonderful places of inspiration with their architecture, majestic trees, and sweeping lawns” said Kathleen Mullins, president. “We are pleased to offer this exhibit at Ford House so that our visitors can enjoy the beauty of the two Ford estates through the lens of Balthazar’s camera.”
Photography aficionados and novices alike will have the opportunity to express their own creativity and the inspiration they discovered in the colorful landscapes of the two estates this fall. Photography workshops will be offered for all level of experience, and a Flickr community photography gallery has been set up so that these “inspired images” can be broadly enjoyed.
“We encourage visitors to the two Ford estates to spend time looking at the grounds in new ways – notice the bend of a tree, the sweep of the meadow, the contrasting colors of the changing foliage, and how our built and natural environments complement each other” Mullins added.
