Bird Island Re-Opening Celebration
Come join us for a special celebration of the work we've been doing on Bird Island and elsewhere around the estate!
Bird Island has been closed since the winter, but we are re-opening it to the public with a celebration on July 8. The estate grounds will be open free to the public from 5-8 p.m. that evening so that guests can walk across the newly installed footbridge now connecting the island to the mainland.
Explore and discover the natural beauty on the island, stroll around the historic estate, and learn about the important work we are doing to protect and preserve the Ford House!
Hot dogs, snacks, craft beer, tropical sangria and other beverages will be available for purchase
We will have a demonstration of the newly installed bioswale storm-water drainage system, which helps naturally clean the water before it enters Lake St. Clair. Ford House staff members will be on hand to talk about the projects and construction on the estate. In addition, Rosann Kovalcik of Wild Birds Unlimited will be there to talk about the wonderful wildlife on Bird Island. We hope you will join us for this wonderful evening!
Ford House members can come for a sneak preview on July 7. Find details and RSVP to that event here.
The grounds will be open for your enjoyment. Please no dogs at the event.
