Edsel & Eleanor Ford House to Host
ARTIFACT: A Blending of Art and Artifact

Exhibit Celebrates Inspiration and a Partnership
 Between Ford House and CCS
Two of metro Detroit’s leading cultural institutions have come together to celebrate the inspiration of the past and artists of the future with the exhibition “ARTIFACT: A Blending of Art and Artifact,” which will be on display in the Ford House Activities Center from Oct. 7 to Nov. 13.
The ARTIFACT exhibit pays tribute to the long standing relationship between the Ford Family the College for Creative Studies (CCS), while showcasing the inspiration that historic art and artifacts can have on emerging artists. The exhibit will be open to visitors during regular hours and admittance is free of charge.

Using the historic Ford House estate and its collections as inspiration, students from Susan Aaron-Taylor’s interdisciplinary class at CCS created their own interpretations of these interesting and varied components, which were art, . Their provocative, contemporary creations willin most cases be shown side-by-side with  the original piece of art or artifact from Ford House's collection that they chose for inspiration.
“The works in Artifact serve as excellent examples of how people can be inspired by the past and blend those ideas with their own imagination to create something that is truly unique.” said Kathleen Mullins, president of Ford House. “Just as the Fords were inspired by the world around them as they created their family home, we want visitors to realize that they too can look at the world differently and use the estate as an opportunity to unleash their creativity.”
This is the second time Ford House has hosted an ARTIFACT exhibit.  The first, in 2009, featured the inspiration of collections from the Detroit Institute of Arts.
