Celebrate the Holidays at Ford House
Posted: November 30, 2017
The air is crisp and the days are shorter, which means the holiday season is here. Holiday events and tours at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House are family favorites for creating cherished wintertime memories. Classic traditions such as Ford House Holiday Tours
will be offered throughout the season, but with construction beginning on a new visitor center and an administration building, there will also be some new traditions to try out.
Rest assured that this winter season, there will be plenty of opportunities to learn about how the Fords celebrated the holidays and gather loved ones to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year at the estate.
For weeks, Ford House staff and volunteers have been meticulously decorating the family home with fourteen full-sized Christmas trees and over 2,500 ornaments to prepare for annual Ford House Holiday Tours. At Holiday Tours, the lovely décor takes center stage and guests are offered a unique peek into the Fords’ holiday festivities and traditions. Special collection items such as Eleanor’s custom-made vintage ornaments, crystal, fine china, glowing candles, and other gorgeous finery are thoughtfully placed in every room, making the home warmer and cozier than ever.
“The holidays at Ford House are unique, not only because of the beautiful decorations, but also because docents are able to share stories of treasured family moments at the estate,” says Mary Fishwick, docent and volunteer coordinator at Ford House. “The Fords loved spending time together during the holidays, and guests are able to see where the family gathered on Christmas Eve to watch first-run movies, shared special meals, and opened presents under the tree.”
Ford House Holiday Tours run through January 7. General Holiday Tours are $12 for adults, $11 for seniors, $8 for children ages 6-12, and free for Ford House members.
The holiday season is a great time to purchase the gift of Ford House membership,
where members gain free admission to all general tours, early registration for select programs and events, extended hours for walking the grounds, members-only promotions and events, and discounts in the Museum Shop.
Guests are also invited to bundle up and head to Ford House for an evening of holiday merriment at Merry & Bright Nights
, where visitors will enjoy a strolling candlelight holiday tour of the house, see the estate aglow with lights, gather ‘round a warm fire, and share their wishes with Santa. Merry & Bright Nights will run Thursday – Saturday nights, December 7 – 23. Tickets are still available for select nights and can be purchased online only at www.fordhouse.org/events
