Ford House is making the season bright - literally.
Posted: December 10, 2013
For the first time, the trees on the grounds of the historic Grosse Pointe Shores estate will be illuminated with more than 70,000 glimmering lights for its brand new event, Winter Wonderland Weekends, adding yet another offering to the holiday favorites at this iconic home.
The early evening stroll will take visitors on a leisurely walk through a spectacular outdoor display showcasing thousands of lights adorning the trees in some of the most popular gardens. Holiday carols will fill the crisp air as the hundreds of luminaries light the way along the half-mile path. Visitors can warm up in front of one of the open fire pits, sip hot chocolate or mulled wine and enjoy storytellers as they share tales of the holiday season. Little ones won’t want to miss a stop at the charmingly decorated Play House or a visit to Santa’s Workshop. There will also be a holiday craft for children to create and take home with them.
Winter Wonderland Weekends run Saturdays and Sundays, December 14-15, 21-22, and 28-29, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. Tickets are $10 per person. For more information or to order tickets, visit www.fordhouse.org.
Event sponsored by Three C's Landscaping, Ford Motor Company Fund, Henry Ford Health Systems, Wahl Tents, Guardian Alarm and Trader Joe's.
Holiday Tours and Santa’s Workshop
While the season is getting brighter outdoors, the interior of the architectural masterpiece is decked out for the popular Holiday Tours. The mainstay of a Ford House Christmas experience, Holiday Tours offers an intimate peek into the lives of one of America’s most beloved families. Visitors experience the breathtaking décor reflecting Edsel and Eleanor Ford’s love of design and hear about the family’s traditions and treasured moments spent together at the estate.
Returning this year is a trip to Santa’s Workshop, where visitors can visit a little piece of the North Pole right at the estate. The historic South Cottage has been transformed into a workshop that is the envy of all the elves, complete with Santa’s workbench, toys for children to play with and even the naughty and nice list.
Holiday Tours at Ford House, which include a guided tour of the house and a visit to Santa’s Workshop and Play House, are offered Tuesdays through Sundays, ending on January 5. Admission is $12 for adults, $11 seniors and $8 children ages 6-12.
