About the Exhibition

Selected works explore the meaning and expression of craft in the 21st century through thoughtful and playful juxtapositions with the museumโ€™s collection of the Fordsโ€™ art and antiques and the interior architectural features of the Albert Kahn-designed 1929 home. The exhibited pieces provoke questions about the role of technology in contributing to new aesthetic values and trends, the meaning of digital craftsmanship, the relationship between tools, materials, cultures, economies, and more.ย

The curated show will feature more than 70 works from 35 local artists and designers, with works including robot-made drawings, 3D-printed furniture, and a digital jacquard loom weaving. On view for the month of September during the annual Detroit Month of Design, thisย innovativeย exhibition is a collaboration among Lawrence Technological Universityโ€™s College of Architecture and Design, Ford House, and Design Core Detroit.ย ย
