About the project

This presentation will provide an overview of the Ford Cove Restoration Feasibility Study currently underway in partnership with Great Lakes Commission, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and OHM Advisors.

Targeted at understanding the current conditions of plant and animal communities as well as public input, soils, landforms, and movement of water in and out of Ford Cove, the first phase of this project has included investigation of amphibians and reptiles, fish, birds, mussels, and macroinvertebrates.

A spotlight on hydrodynamic modeling of flows and water quality in Ford Cove and adjacent Lake St Clair will be featured in the presentation.

The second and upcoming phase of the project will work to create a conceptual plan for restoration of shoreline habitat in Ford Cove along Bird Island and included cost estimates, potential schedules, and schematic design and will be discussed in brief.
